Birdwatching in Langtang Valley

Birdwatching in Langtang Valley

The Langtang Birdwatching Trip brings you into the subtropical and alpine fairyland of birds and fauna to a site where a tranquil, crystal-clear lake glistens in the sunlight.

The Langtang National Park is within a 4-hour drive north of Kathmandu, the country's capital. The park covers an area of 1,710 km2 (660 sq mi) and stands tall in the middle Himalayas at an elevation of 6,450 m (21,160 ft). The park's vegetation and ecosystems range from high tropical forests to alpine vegetation, and the southwest summer monsoon dominates. Gosainkunda Lake is located at an elevation of 4,380 meters. It's no surprise that it's a haven for birdwatchers, photographers, and wildlife aficionados.

With the park's richness of birds (380 species, according to Bird Conservation Nepal and DNPWC), it's an excellent area to go trekking and birding in the Himalayas. One of the most well-known birds spends its summers and breeds here. Because of its record of 10 GTS (globally threatened species) and 49 nationally threatened bird species, the park is an important bird area (IBA) for the country as well as the globe.

It also supports several rare and endangered plant and animal species, including the elusive red panda and snow leopard. Other species include the Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan Black Bear, Musk Deer, Assamese Monkey, Red Wolf, and Tibetan Sheep. Many wetlands may be found inside the park, including Gosainkunda, the world's most respected alpine lake, and a notable Pilgrim site.
Moreover, Langtang Valley Trek is one of Nepal's most popular destinations for adventurous trekking. Langtang Lirung is the highest peak seen from Kathmandu (7250 m).
